2027 is the Year of the Goat in the Chinese zodiac. The Goat trots in on Lunar New Year, Saturday, February 6, 2027, and sticks around until Tuesday, January 25, 2028, when it hands things over to the Monkey. The Farmers’ Almanac lists it as a Fire Goat year, which, let’s be honest, sounds pretty great on a lantern.
What year of the zodiac is 2027?
2027 is the Year of the Goat, the eighth of the twelve zodiac animals. Depending on who you ask, the animal is also called the Sheep or the Ram (more on that below). The twelve animals, in order, are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.
When does the Year of the Goat start and end?
Don’t start celebrating on January 1. The zodiac year follows the lunar calendar, so the 2027 Year of the Goat runs from February 6, 2027 to January 25, 2028. Lunar New Year 2028 falls on January 26, 2028, and starts the Year of the Monkey.
Which years are Goat years?
The animals take turns every 12 years, so recent Goat years are 2027, 2015, 2003, 1991, 1979 and 1967. Born in January or early February? Check carefully: because each zodiac year starts on Lunar New Year, you may belong to the previous year’s animal. For example, a person born on January 20, 2027 was born in the Year of the Horse, not the Goat.
What does “Fire Goat” mean?
Besides the twelve animals, the traditional calendar also pairs each year with an element. The Farmers’ Almanac lists 2027 as a Goat year with the Fire element, which is why you will see it called the Year of the Fire Goat.
How is the Year of the Goat celebrated?
Expect goats everywhere. Lunar New Year events in 2027 will feature goat-themed decorations, lanterns and artwork alongside the usual lion dances, parades and red envelopes. Find celebrations near you in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and other cities, or read when Lunar New Year 2027 is.
