There’s something about folding a dumpling with your own hands that makes the new year feel real. The Lunar New Year Celebration at Franklin Square in Philadelphia mixes that with a lion dance and crafts in Franklin Square park. The 2027 date hasn’t been announced yet; it was last held Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m.
What to expect
The evening opens with a Philadelphia Suns lion dance. After that, you can join a free dumpling workshop led by Michael Chow of Sang Kee Peking Duck House.
Kids can make crafts, and red envelope giveaways add a little luck to the night. Partners have included Asian Arts Initiative and Sang Kee. Fair warning: you may leave planning a dumpling night at home.
