Paper, glue and a riddle tucked inside a lantern: the O.C. Lantern Festival in Costa Mesa is the kind of hands-on celebration where you go home with something you made. The free, day-long festival returns to Segerstrom Center for the Arts on Saturday, March 6, 2027. It marks the tradition of the first full moon 15 days after Lunar New Year.

What to expect

Pacific Symphony and the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center host the festival across Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall and Argyros Plaza. Activities include lantern making, riddles and photo opportunities. Inside the concert hall you’ll find live local music and dance, a dragon dance and a Chinese folk dance lesson.

In 2026, held Saturday, March 7, the outdoor activities in Argyros Plaza needed no ticket. Food is available, so nobody has to solve riddles on an empty stomach.
