When the drums kick in at the Asian Lunar New Year Festival at the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center in Tucson, the whole room leans forward for the lions, and the center’s signature celebration keeps the stage busy from morning to evening. The 2027 dates haven’t been announced yet. In 2026 it was held Saturday, February 21, from 10 am to 6 pm.
What to expect
The day runs in performance blocks that open and close with the TCCC Lion Dance Troupe. In between, you might catch Chinese yo-yo, pipa (a pear-shaped Chinese lute) and guzheng (a Chinese zither) ensembles, martial arts, Chinese dance, a choir and University of Arizona student groups.
Chinese food and drinks are for sale, and the TCCC gift shop and exhibits are open. Earlier years added kids’ arts and crafts and a raffle. Pace yourself: the lions get the last word.
