The Indianapolis Lunar New Year Festival is a free community stage show in Indianapolis, open to all ages. Expect a lion dance, followed by flowing dance, Chinese orchestra music and calm, slow-motion tai chi (a gentle martial art). The 2027 dates haven’t been announced yet; in 2026 it ran Saturday, April 4, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Indiana Historical Society.
What to expect
The stage show features lion dance, traditional Chinese dance, Chinese orchestra music and tai chi. The festival is usually held at Central Library (40 E. St. Clair St.), but in 2026 it moved to the Indiana Historical Society while the library was closed for repairs, and it shifted from March 7 to April 4.
The 2025 festival included cultural vendor booths; 2026 had none. Either way, the lion dancers bring plenty of drama on their own.
