A dragon parade at a middle school is not something you see every day. The Chinese New Year Festival at Luther Jackson Middle School in Falls Church, Virginia, has been held at the school since 2009 and fills a full day with performances and activities. The 2027 date hasn’t been announced yet; the last festival was Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
What to expect
The stage program features lion and dragon dances and a dragon parade. Around the building, you’ll find children’s activities, a craft market, cultural exhibitions and food.
The 2025 program added calligraphy, dumpling making, a Korean traditional dress fashion show, and dances from Mongolia, China, India and Indonesia. Pace yourself: a full day goes by fast.
