Follow the lions from Chinatown to the museum! Edmonton’s Chinatown Business Improvement Area leads a lion dance parade that starts in front of Lucky 97 and ends at the Royal Alberta Museum, where a free afternoon of performances and family activities fills the main lobby. The 2027 date hasn’t been announced yet; the most recent celebration was Sunday, February 22, 2026.
What to Expect
In 2026 the indoor program included lion dance and Cree dance performances and activities about Year of the Horse traditions.
Edmonton winters can change plans: in 2026 the outdoor dragon dance and firecrackers were cancelled because of extreme cold, and everything moved inside the museum. The same parade-to-museum format ran in January 2025.
