Lion dances, a spinning raffle and a table full of Vietnamese food make the VACAT Tet Festival in Austin the city’s long-running celebration of Tết (Vietnamese Lunar New Year), held at Holy Family Catholic School. The 2027 dates haven’t been announced yet. In 2025 the 25th annual festival ran Sunday, January 19, from 11 am to 7 pm.
What to expect
Lion dances open the fun, followed by Vietnamese entertainment and an áo dài (traditional Vietnamese long dress) fashion show. There are games and eating contests, karaoke, bingo and raffle prizes, plus plenty of Vietnamese food.
Look for lì xì (lucky red envelopes), a classic Tết tradition. If the eating contest calls your name, maybe skip lunch.
