Picture drums echoing off old brick buildings as a dragon weaves through the crowd: that’s the Phoenix Chinese Week Lunar New Year Festival, a free two-day celebration in downtown Phoenix, held most recently at The Square PHX (Heritage Square). The 2027 dates haven’t been announced yet. In 2026 it ran Saturday and Sunday, February 14 and 15, as the 36th annual festival.
What to expect
The stage stays busy all weekend with dragon and lion dances, folk dance, music, tai chi (a slow, flowing martial art) and martial arts. Between shows, you can browse Asian food trucks, food and merchandise vendors and cultural exhibits.
Kids get their own Children’s Pavilion, plus hands-on games like a chopstick challenge, mahjong (a tile-matching game), the abacus, the Chinese yo-yo and Chinese name translation. Fair warning: the chopstick challenge is harder than it looks. Rosson House and the museum buildings at The Square PHX open their doors during the festival too.
