Drums, food booths and a whole street full of neighbors: that’s the Monterey Park Lunar New Year Festival, a free two-day party on Garvey Avenue in downtown Monterey Park. The 2027 dates haven’t been announced yet. In 2026 it ran Saturday and Sunday, January 31 and February 1.

What to expect

Lion and dragon dancers opened the festival on Saturday morning, and live entertainment kept going on both days. Vendors sold gifts and specialty items, and food booths lined the route, so you could graze your way down the avenue.

There was also a carnival fun zone with amusement rides in the lots at Garvey and Lincoln avenues. Pro tip: maybe save the rides for after the snacks.
